Program Notes:This composition was inspired by the French Romantic organ built by Gene Bedient now in the spacious neo-Gothic acoustics of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Charleston. In choosing registration, the performer should keep in mind the warm eight-foot sounds, gradual crescendos, and powerful reeds of this style of organ. The pictorial title describes exactly the germinating idea that served as a basis for this work. It is a musical stroll with asides for contemplation. If I had to pick a place to describe my impression(s), it would be vistas of a great mountain range as seen along a footpath that lies mostly above timberline.
