I. WHEN ROOTS MOVE BY 4TH OR 5TH:

1. Keep the common tone (in the same voice!)

2. Move the other two voices STEPWISE to the next chord tone (no skips!)

II. WHEN ROOTS MOVE BY 3RD OR 6TH:

1. Keep BOTH common tones

2. Move the other voice stepwise

III. WHEN ROOTS MOVE BY 2ND:

Move the upper three voices in contrary motion to the bass

(2 voices will move by second, one by the skip of a third.
